Hand in hand with our community
In 2014 we focused the majority of our CSR activities on one charity close to our heart, The Simon Community.
Throughout the year we raised money by putting our culinary skills to use in several bake sales, as well as running casual dress-down weeks. In total we raised €1,600, all with the aim of putting our DIY skills to good use for the Simon community's Chester House project.
About Chester House
Chester House is a high support housing service providing accommodation to people who have been homeless for long periods of time and do not have the capacity to live independently. Every resident has their own room with access to large communal spaces and gardens. The project operates a case management system where staff provides support to residents through individualised support plans. Residents are also taught life skills to increase their ability to maintain independent or semi-independent living. For many, it can be the first place they have had to call home after years spent sleeping rough or moving from hostel to hostel. By providing a stable environment many residents naturally reduce their alcohol and drug use and, by eating regular meals and getting regular sleep, many residents experience an improvement in their physical and mental health.
Chester house opened in October 2013 and the new building has brought many benefits both to residents and staff of the service. One of the biggest benefits is that all residents have the same standard of accommodation i.e. each have their own bathroom and shower. The team identified four rooms that needed maintenance and decoration. Each room needed to be painted and new furniture assembled. We jumped at the chance of going in to help decorate the rooms for residents and we've loved being a part of the project. Having the opportunity to give something back to the community means a lot to us.
"On behalf of the Simon Community, and more importantly the people who rely on our services, I would like to thank everybody at Harvey Nash most sincerely for your support in 2013. Your involvement this year included the Stock the Shops Collection, Share Your Skills Programme and the Room to Improve project in our Chester House Service.
Your help allows us to give renewed hope to the thousands who come to our door each year, often at their lowest point. Because of you we are able to support them along the road out of homelessness to re-establish their sense of self in a safe and secure environment.
Thank you for your ongoing generosity. We greatly appreciate your enduring belief in the people that need our help every day. Your support allows them to regain their independence and move towards a brighter future."
