Chief Executive, East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust

East Kent University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest acute providers in England, with three main hospital sites providing services to a population of over 759,000 people across Dover, Canterbury, Thanet, Shepway and Ashford. Our 8,000 staff are dedicated to delivering first-class patient care and with a turnover of £540m and over 1,000 beds, we have scale and complexity.

Whilst we are ambitious and have made progress in a number of key areas, we continue to face a number of significant challenges. We are currently receiving support from NHS Improvement around our long term financial sustainability, performance and are making tangible progress in establishing a more robust financial footing to prepare us for the future.

It is essential for us to be able to give confidence to our patients, communities, partners and regulators that we can rise to these challenges through ongoing transformation and sustainable improvement. We now require an inspirational leader with strong operational instincts as well as significant strategic skills. Securing the right individual as Chief Executive will be a vital component of our future success and that of the health system in which we work. This is a unique Chief Executive opportunity to implement a vibrant and sustainable future for our Trust.

You will need the ability be able to inspire our staff and win the confidence of external stakeholders and build successful collaborative relationships across the health economy. You will play a key role in managing acute health care across East Kent, leading by example and developing a committed workforce. This is a significant opportunity to provide leadership to enable the Trust and the health system to meet its full potential in delivering innovative models of care.

The ideal candidate will be ambitious and a resilient leader who is highly motivated; patient focused, committed to delivering excellent health care and will be able to evidence demonstrable strategic leadership experience. We recognise that our journey has remained challenging and complex, however, we are confident that with the right leadership and commitment from our staff and health and social care partners, that we are capable of continuing a journey towards being a high performing University Hospitals Trust that delivers our vision of 'great healthcare from great people'.
