Sarah Spain has experienced more than her fair share of sexism as a Chicago sports reporter and TV/radio personality. When Spain joined ESPN Radio 1000, she was its first regular female on-air voice in 11 years. The station became flooded with text messages from sports fans asking who she slept with to get the job and how they couldn't stand hearing a woman talk about sports.
But the misogyny didn't stop at irrational sports radio listeners. Once, as a young beat reporter covering the Chicago Blackhawks, a veteran reporter told Blackhawks PR that Spain must have been sleeping with the players because she was getting better interviews than he was.
