Project Technology Manager (Regional/Office)

Job Title: Project Technology Manager (x2)

Location: London and Manchester

Report To: The Head of Project Technology

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, flexibility will be required

Key Responsibility of Role:
The key function of the role is to enable BDP’s projects to optimise the use and effectiveness of the application of technology from both a multi and mono disciplinary perspective. This role focuses on the use and support of CAD, DTP and analysis systems. The role will form an effective and proactive conduit between project practitioners, central IT resources, and the promotion of good technology use from around the practice, the industry as a whole and technology providers.
Responsibility for setting up projects and monitoring of CAD methods in tandem with the recognition and integration of practice wide standards.

Main Duties:

  • Day to day support on CAD and project based systems.

  • Ensuring that regular reviews take place with individual project teams to promote the value of good working practices for the application of project based technologies at each design stage.

  • Liaison with other project technology managers around the practice and central IT to ensure that methodologies are effectively integrated from project inception.

  • Ensure that projects shared between locations have a co-ordinated methodology from inception to delivery.

  • Championing of good project technology practice to all levels of the business, emphasising the need for good practice with design and delivery directors alongside harnessing the skills of individual team members.

  • Co-ordination of project technology training needs from individual application training to effective methods of working and technology appreciation.

  • Sourcing, developing and communicating the existence of appropriate CAD based resources, such as satellite imagery, mapping information, components, scripting and graphic libraries.

  • Liaison with the local relationship manager to co-ordinate IT support as it affects project technology and the delivery of the support service through Central IT and the managed service providers.

  • Problem escalation through the local relationship manager and managed service provider to ensure timely response to the resolution of technology issues.

  • An appreciation of the benefits and potential pitfalls of the project specific customisation of project technology systems. Justification and promotion of the development of project specific tools which could contribute to streamlined working methods on a broader basis.

  • Contribution to the support knowledge base for project orientated infrastructure, hardware and application issues.

  • Ensure that the currency of your skills and understanding of present application functionality and working methods is more than adequately maintained and encompasses planning for likely future changes and developments.

  • Contributing to the exploration of new tools and techniques of project technology applications.

Essential Skills:


  • A high quality user of CAD based software, ideally from a Bentley Systems Microstation background.

  • Experience of the application of CAD systems in a project based environment.

  • A keen and acquisitive learner of project technology tools and techniques.
