On behalf of Barts and The London NHS Trust, I would like to thank you for your interest in becoming the Programme Director of the largest health PFI scheme in Europe (and probably the world).
Barts and The London's £1 billion new hospitals programme reached financial close on 27 April 2006 and the main construction programme has commenced to create world-class new healthcare facilities at Barts in the City and The Royal London in Whitechapel.
The redevelopment will transform both hospitals, which together with The London Chest Hospital, have provided medical care for hundreds of years. The entire redevelopment of both hospitals is expected to be completed in 2015. The new Cancer Centre at Barts is due to be ready in 2010 and most of the new facilities at The Royal London should be operational early in 2012, London's Olympic Year.
Our 42 year contract (includes 9 year construction programme but 70% completed by 2012) with Capital Hospitals Limited for the new hospitals programme comprises;
- Construction (Skanska)
- Full range of Facilities Management services and maintenance / lifecycle (Carillion, Synergy & Skanska Rashleigh Weatherfoil)
- Managed Equipment Service (Siemens)
The published version of the full business case (see www.bartsandthelondon.nhs.uk) incorporates changes made in line with requirements by the Department of Health at the time of its approval of the scheme in March 2006, which was conditional on a £9.46 million reduction in the annual unitary charge to be paid by the Trust to the private partner, for the construction and maintenance of the hospitals.
The New Hospitals Programme is integral to wider plans for the modernising of health services across the City and East London supported by state of the art technology and facilities. Our challenge is, therefore, to ensure that we realise the benefits identified for the Programme and in doing so transform our ways of working.
If you are excited at the prospect of leading this programme and working in a Trust that has just received one of the highest, Health Commission ratings of NHS organisations in England for the Quality of Services (excellent) and Use of Resources (good) and you can demonstrate that you have:
- successfully managed a large scale PFI programme;
- technical, construction and project management skills to ensure that the programme delivers on time and within budget;
- strong commercial acumen to ensure robust financial, legal and risk management; and
- highly effective interpersonal skills to lead complex negotiations and build stakeholder relationships;
A significant, six figure package with benefits is available for the successful candidate.
Should you wish to discuss this opportunity further, please contact our advising consultants Frank McKenna (020 7333 1577) or Noorzaman Rashid (020 7333 1436) at Harvey Nash plc in the first instance.
Yours sincerely
