Mr Paul White
Chief Executive
Paul White has been CEO of Barts and The London since 2001. He serves on a number of national and London bodies, including the Advisory Council of Partnerships UK, and works internationally for the Department of Health and Health Quality Services (formerly King’s Fund).
He has held a number of CEO and senior managerial posts including in Scotland where he was a member of the Ministerial Modernisation Forum, advising on the Scottish Health Plan ‘Our National Health’, Chairman of the National Acute Trust Chief Executives’ Group; and a member of a number of Scottish National Health Service Groups and Working Parties. |

Mrs Gail Beer
Director of Operations
Gail Beer is the Director of Operations. Gail trained as a nurse at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and worked in a number of London teaching hospitals before moving into management in 1992.
Gail has held a number of posts since then within the Trust across a variety of services including the Cardiac and Renal Directorate.

Ms Susan Cunnington-King
Director of Communications
Susan Cunnington-King, joined Barts and The London in July 2003. An award-winning PR professional, she has specialised in challenging reputation and issues management roles. Previously she was Head of Special Projects for airports group, BAA plc, where she was responsible for environmental issues and the prime-ministerial launch of the Heathrow Express during the campaign for a fifth terminal at the airport.
Before that she was Public Affairs Manager for Heathrow, directing the airport's 50th anniversary campaign and managing international media relations during the IRA mortar attacks on the airport. Previously she was Senior Press Officer for the UK Atomic Energy Authority inthe run up to its privatisation.
Susan recently co-authored a business book on corporate social responsibility with her former colleagues at BAA plc, Des Wilson and Sir John Egan. She has also written science and technology features for national newspapers including The Sunday Times, Daily Telegraph and The Guardian.
During this time she gained experience in a number of areas including communications, building and planning, and customer service. |

Mr John Goulston Director of Finance and Investment and Deputy Chief Executive
John Goulston joined Barts and The London as Finance Director in September 2002. After graduating in economics at Hull University, John joined the NHS Southeast Thames Regional Health Authority's finance training scheme.
Once qualified as an accountant, he joined accountancy firm Coopers and Lybrand, where he spent three years in public sector audit and another three in health consultancy.
He returned to the NHS in 1992 - working first as Finance Director of the former Crawley and Horsham Trust for three years, and then as Finance Director of Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust for seven years. |

Dr Charles Gutteridge Medical Director - Healthcare Governance
Charles Gutteridge has been Medical Director of Barts and The London NHS Trust since January 2002. He trained at Cambridge University and The London Hospital Medical College. He has worked in east London for many years, initially as a doctor in training and then as a consultant haematologist at Newham Healthcare Trust where he was also Medical Director. He maintains his interest in medical research and education through his position as a Senior Lecturer at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. |

Ms Ann Macintyre Director of Human Resources
Ann Macintyre joined the Trust in August 1997 having previously held Executive Director posts in Hertfordshire and Northwick Park and St Marks Hospital in London.
Ann joined the health service over 25 years ago starting her career in personnel management as a clerical officer. Having gained her professional qualifications in 1985, Ann has worked in a wide range of generalist and specialist roles.
During her period at Barts and The London, Ann has held a number of national and regional roles including Chair of the London Directors forum (SHRINE), member of the National Human Resources Steering Group and member of the Department of Health negotiating teams for doctors' pay and terms and conditions of service. |

Mr Ian Walker Director of Corporate Services
Ian Walker joined the Trust in September 2003 as Trust Secretary and took up the position of Director of Corporate Services in June 2006.
As Director of Corporate Services, Ian is responsible for corporate governance and Board Secretariat, policy development, commercial legal services and insurance matters and the Trust's move towards Foundation status. The Corporate Services directorate also includes the Trust's Archives and Museums, Special Events and Staff Benefits teams.
Ian was previously at HM Treasury for 11 years where he worked on various aspects of economic and financial policy including the Government's decision on whether to join the European single currency. He also led the Civil Service team which supported Sir Derek Wanless in his review of the long-term funding of the NHS which reported to the Chancellor of the Exchequer in 2002. |

Mr Graham Simpson Director of Strategy
Graham Simpson joined the Barts and The London in August 2006 from South East London Strategic Health Authority, where he was Planning Director for four years. Before this, he was Director of Strategic planning at the Lewisham Hospital NHS Trust.
Graham began his NHS career in Manchester as a national trainee in 1985 and has lived and worked in London since 1990. His background is in hospital management and health care planning in a number of acute Trust and Health Authority posts. |
