Job Purpose
The Head of Risk Support will be responsible for the delivery and development of expert risk and occupational health services to Partners and other clients allowing them to manage their risks appropriately. This will involve the provision of expert guidance and support to develop risk management processes including assessment, analysis, control and monitoring.
The role encompasses the agreement of service specifications and ensuring these are met through operational management adopting a customer focussed approach and instilling an ethos of continuous improvement across the team.
Main Responsibilities
Strategic:
- Communicate at a high level with Directors and senior staff. Undertake presentations to Partnership Board and Partner Boards.
- Promote and develop risk management meeting Partner and clients needs both now and in the future and in accordance with NHS national policy.
- Provide professional risk management leadership across the Risk Support Team.
- Contribute to the development of ASP’s Strategy and Business Plan in respect of service development and delivery.
Management:
- Liaise extensively with Partners and other clients agreeing service specifications for risk support services and monitoring service delivery.
- Manage the Risk Support Team ensuring that services are responsive to client need and delivered in a professional and timely manner ensuring they meet both contractual obligations and agreed service specifications.
- Maintain and disseminate an expert knowledge of NHS assurance processes including Standards for Better Health, NHSLA policy and practice, Fire Code, Occupational Health policy and practice etc. Maintain knowledge of NHS Information Governance and Complaints standards and policies.
- Manage Team performance through the ongoing development of effective performance indicators. Also ensure that all agreed indicators are met.
- Lead on the development of risk related policy and procedure for Partners.
- Ensure Partners receive timely and expert advice on risk issues and that communication systems support access to the most appropriate source of advice.
- Manage the relationship with specialist contractors (e.g. counselling service).
- Proactively manage perceptions of the service and maintain a customer focussed approach across all teams.
- Establish an ethos of continuous improvement across all services.
- Provide support and training for Emergency Planning.
- Promote risk management within ASP.
- Lead on the maintenance and development of specialist software products (e.g.Safety Alert Management System)
Resources:
- Maintain accountability for the setting of budgets and ensure delegated responsibilities are understood by Team managers. Investigate variances and action any remedial plans.
- Respond to tenders for risk support services and proactively promote services to other clients.
- Be responsible for identifying and delivering cost improvement programmes and undertaken benchmarking work in line with ASP’s programme.
Communication:
- Ensure effective communication pathways are established to resolve concerns/issues/complaints from clients.
- Ensure effective communication with Partners and Clients at a senior level.
- Ability to communicate performance management information to a variety of audiences at a range of levels.
General:
- The post holder will be expected to participate in an annual appraisal of their work in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF) when the job description will be reviewed.
- The post holder as an individual is required to understand his/her responsibility for respecting and promoting issues of equality, diversity and rights in accordance with good practice and legislation.
- The post holder will be required to be flexible in their approach and will be expected to cover any management duties as agreed with by the Managing Director.
- The post holder will participate in the Objective Setting and Review (OSR) process.
- The post holder will be required to travel widely between locations within the geographical area of Anglia Support Partnership.
