Background

Our client, SPI Technologies, is the leading content outsourcing services provider in the world with 21 service centres across the USA, Europe and Asia and offers content services to their customers in America & Europe.

Solution

Traditionally, companies scan the entire page at a higher resolution to capture better quality images within the documents and then convert the scanned images into PDF documents. However this results into large size PDF files that are expensive to store and distribute. SilkRoad’s PDF team creates the PDF documents consisting of text and images in a single page.

A document is scanned twice, first time for optimal text resolution and second time for images. Later two parts are merged to get higher quality text, superior image quality and file sizes that are typically 70%-80% smaller than the conventional files. This process benefits both publishers (reduced long-term data storage cost) and customers (reduced download time and ability to print downloaded files using a desktop printer).

Using de-skewing and de-speckling and other image clean up techniques, SilkRoad has produced over 8 million pages in PDF and has the capability to convert any types of documents into PDF files with optimised file sizes.

Result

Client is using SilkRoad’s PDF conversion services for more that two years and is very happy with the service provided by SilkRoad and continues to use SilkRoad services. Client has expanded the scope of services and currently using SilkRoad services in other areas such as abstraction services.
