Rebecca Afonwy-Jones
Rebecca Afonwy-Jones, Mezzo Soprano, a was born in Montgomery, Mid Wales and obtained B.A (hons.) in English Literature & History of Art before taking up her place in Postgraduate Vocal Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Cardiff. She received the Davies Scholarship and The Welsh Livery Guild Scholarship before graduating with distinction in 2003. Whilst in Cardiff, she sang with the BBC National Chorus of Wales & the award winning choir, Serendipity with whom she performed with Bryn Terfel at the Faenol Festival, BBC Songs of Praise & on his 2005 Christmas tour. She returned in July 2007 to Llangollen International Eisteddfod with Serendipity to support José Carreras, live on S4C television. She has performed for Garsington Opera Chorus (Der Stein der Weisen & La Donna del Lago), in recital at Lower Machen Festival, Criccieth Festival & St Lawrence-Jewry-next-Guildhall Festival. Rebecca also continues to perform for Yehudi Menuhin’s outreach charity Live Music Now! in a variety of venues. She is currently studying at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama with John Evans, where she has performed scenes from the roles of Angelina La Cenerentola & Dorothée, Cendrillon and the role of Third Boy in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte . Future plans include her début in Brian Irvine’s new opera, Dumbworld in Dublin this May, Hector Berlioz’s Les Nuits D’été with Wrexham Symphony Orchestra in July and further study at the Alexander Gibson Opera School, RSAMD, Glasgow this Autumn. Rebecca gratefully acknowledges scholarships from The Kathleen Trust, The Ryan Davies Memorial Fund, The Atlantic Foundation & The Lynn Foundation to support her studies. |
