Harvey Nash CIO Survey – Event Blog, Edinburgh

Last night (Thursday) saw the 3rd annual Harvey Nash Scotland CIO/IT Leadership event at Edinburgh’s prestigious Glasshouse rooftop  venue.

Welcoming over 100 of the top Senior IT Executives from around Scotland, this event presented back the findings from the Harvey Nash 2011 annual CIO survey, taken from the views of over 2,500 CIO’s globally.

Following an overview of the most salient/notable points of value in this years survey, there were speeches from Scott Mackay,  Director, CBS, BSkyB and Gareth Williams, CEO of Skyscanner, followed by a lively Q&A session between the floor and our esteemed panel of industry experts.

Some of the key themes to arise from both this years’ survey and panel debate/speeches were the importance of Innovation within IT and the lessons large and small organisations can learn from each other in implementing this as well as the importance of working closely with Customers/Users throughout to foster change and innovation both internally and externally.

Another common theme intimated by the panel members, which included CIO’s from Financial Services, Public Sector Consultancy, Publishing, and Technology businesses,  was the need to demystify “tech-speak” when communicating with the business. Another point of discussion focussed around the need/hunger for the Scottish universities system to collaborate with Scottish based businesses to garner innovation.
